Public employees and officers: ethics; certain former officers of the executive branch of state government; prohibit from engaging in certain lobbying activities for a period of time. Amends 1978 PA 472 (MCL 4.411 - 4.431) by adding sec. 6d.
This bill prevents former Michigan governors, lieutenant governors, and heads of state departments from working as lobbyists for two years after leaving office, if their term began on or after January 1, 2027. Violators could face misdemeanor charges, including jail time or a fine. The bill does not stop these former officials from taking other state jobs or running for elected office.
